GATE in Petroleum Engineering
PREPARE GATE 2021 IN PETROLEUM ENGINEERING
GATE 2021 will be conducted by IIT Bombay in online mode. Below are the few tips on how to prepare GATE in Petroleum Exam. The journey of preparation for GATE 2021 petroleum engineering requires a proper strategy, a concrete plan and serious efforts. Serious Preparation is the most crucial phase for the GATE exam and thus, we have tried to make the preparation simpler by jotting important steps to crack GATE in Petroleum Engineering.
For any exam first thing that should come into the mind of aspirant is a proper strategy, both for preparation as well as the D-day. Candidates are advised to prepare their own time table and adhere to that time with full concentration. Candidates can divide number of hours depending upon their grasp on the topics. While preparing and understanding they should prepare short notes on the go, this makes revision handy and candidate can revise many topics in one go using short notes.
- Grasp the concepts
Many students kick start their preparation by cramming and memorising i.e., memorising important correlation, unnecessary formulas. But GATE is not an exam based upon how many formulae aspirant has memorised i.e., it doesn’t check memory of aspirants. Aspirants need to have understanding and practical approach of all the concepts. Say for example: In Reservoir engineering there are many gas correlations but students need to understand those correlation instead of cramming it up. There are many concepts in relative permeability curve, a thorough understanding is required for the same. Thus in depth understanding is must when it comes to concept of GATE in Petroleum Engineering.
- Prepare Mathematics and Aptitude
Above two subjects cover 30 marks out of 100 marks in GATE Exam and they are scoring too. These two subjects are non-technical and requires minimum effort to prepare thus practise as much as you can and even an average student can score 25+ marks out of 30. Thus these topics shouldn’t be underestimated else you may end up losing few bonus marks.
As there are many books to prepare GATE in Petroleum Engineering but fundamental concepts remain same in all the books. Thus in order to remove confusions we have prepared 18 recommended books for gate in petroleum engineering.
Note: Aspirants need not to buy the hard copy of these books, the e-books of the same can be downloaded from our telegram channel(@gateaiotspe).

- Technical acumen
As petroleum engineering is an applied engineering and it required in depth knowledge of various engineering and science concepts. Thus students should be focusing more on core concepts of topics like Reservoir Engineering, Drilling Technology, Production Technology etc.
As revision is the key to crack GATE exam. Aspirant should prepare short notes, mnemonics and highlight pdfs paragraphs while preparing the topics. it makes revision less cumbersome with time and more effective. Revision is no less than second reading and it boosts confidence level of students with time.
- Practice Past Question Papers
Only reading and revising the fundamental concepts is not enough while preparing for GATE in petroleum engineering, aspirants should also assess and analyse the level of their actual preparation and knowledge. For that, previous GATE question papers should be practised. This will help the aspirants to assess the marking pattern and level of difficulty of GATE paper and thus will prepare them to adjust their preparation strategy.
- Mock Tests are Important
One of the best methods to prepare for an examination like gate in petroleum is to appear in online mock tests. Mock tests help aspirants to find their mistakes and accordingly aspirants work on them. Aspirants can join GATE 2021 mock tests to understand their preparation progress curve. The mock tests acts as a simulation for the actual GATE Exam since the quality and pattern of the questions will be inline with actual GATE Exam.
“GATE AIOTS PE Test series helped me to regularly simulate my studies through part tests and helped me to correct my mistakes. The confidence that I got after some good part test helped me to move further.” says Sachin Jain (GATE 2020, AIR 2 -Petroleum Engineering)
